Volunteering

Volunteering is a great learning experience for youth. If a youth shows a particular interest in an area, why not ask an organization if you can volunteer? Many places require that youth be 16 unless accompanied by an adult.

Kings Volunteer Resource Centre: The Centre refers, matches and assists volunteers with placements. It Enables volunteer organizations to share information about volunteer opportunities, and provides learning opportunities for volunteers and volunteer organizations. Looking for volunteer opportunities? They can help!

Places to Volunteer

Kings SPCA: To volunteer at the shelter you have to be 16 years of age. We have youth helping us clean floors, laundry, feed cats, clean kennels, etc. MAP

North Mountain Animal Sanctuary – We could use help in all areas, from cleaning the animals’ barns to putting in insulation, to stripping paint and painting/ staining mini barns , to spending time with the animals. There are opportunities to assist with moving fencing and some development projects. We always need help fundraising. The animals here have a great appreciation for food and love to be fed treats! Cuddling is extremely important for all the animals, to socialize and be loved, especially after some of their previous experiences. The animals here love attention and really enjoy quality time with kind-hearted people.

Wolfville Animal Shelter: We have volunteer forms and you have to be 16 or older to do the full 2 hour shift of feeding and cleaning for safety reasons. Younger ones can come with a parent or guardian and visit or play with the cats. Anyone who really loves cats and doesn’t mind getting dirty is usually OK. Shifts are weekdays 3-5pm and Saturdays 10-noon or 1-3pm. Visiting is ok anytime we are open.
