Art Camps

Acadia University Art Gallery Art camps – TBA

Art in the Garden Summer Camp, Wolfville – July 8-12 and August 5-9,
9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday, at the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens on the Acadia Campus, Wolfville. Ages 7-12.

Ross Creek Centre for the Arts Experience an amazing program of camps for children and teens, and academies for young artists. Our flagship arts camps, both in summer and at March Break, offer a unique way to experience the arts. All programs are taught by professional working artists who are  skilled educators and who love to work with kids. The summer teen programs for Academies are masterclasses for young artists to develop their own artistry  and to learn to collaborate with other artists across the disciplines in a unique and exciting program.

Half Day Art Camp for Ages 5 and up with Colleen Gerrits
1)  On Monday, July 29 – Wednesday, July 31, I will be having Art Camp here at my place in Greenwich for ages 5 and up!  You can choose which time slot you prefer.  The first option is  from 9am-12pm and the second group will be from 1-4.  The fee is $97 and will include all 3 half days, art supplies, a snack each day, and a whole lot of fun!.  Please spread the word and let me know asap if you would like to reserve a spot for your child by emailing me at cmgerrits@hotmail.com.  Space is limited and last year filled up quickly.  If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to send me an email or call me at #902-542-9883.  
 
Full Day Art Camp for Ages 10 and up with Colleen Gerrits

Athletic Camps

Acadia Athletics Camps – Basketball, hockey, volleyball and hockey camps available for all ages! Welcome to Acadia Sport Camps – where youth have the opportunity to grow through their sporting experiences at Acadia. Plus, weekly adventure camps.  

Cadance Academy  New Minas, Dance camps will include instruction in Ballet, Modern Jazz, Hip Hop, Zumba (Latin and international dance), creative movement, and yoga in addition to crafts, Friday dance show, plenty of outdoor activities including a pool to cool off in and when ripe, berries right off the branch. Available for ages 4+. 
NEW: “Repertoire and Choreography”  For ages 11+ and those dancers with previous ballet training wanting to sharpen their performance skills. Dance styles will include ballet (including pointe/pre-pointe for females), jazz, contemporary and Acro.

Each dance camp will focus on jazz and contemporary styles, flexibility, and technique. Throughout the week, the dancers will learn two short dances that they are able to perform for parents at the end of the camp. We will be taking time to play games, have snacks/lunch, and water breaks.
Please be sure that your child brings their own drinks and food for each day! As well as dress appropriately as the studio gets very warm in the summer.

Tennis Camp in Kentville – for ages 5-12. Tennis camps are week long programs running each week from July 2nd – August 23rd. Tennis skill development and fun on the courts are the main building block of this camp, but campers also get to enjoy daily swims at the pool, and have regular outings to explore activities and parks in Kentville. From soccer, baseball to scootering to the skatepark and cooling off at the splashpad, tennis camp offers great fun on and off the courts.

Valley Gymnastics – We are offering TWO gymnastics summer camps this July. They include games, crafts and activities, trips to the pool and park, picnics and of course lots of gymnastics and much, much more!

Kingswood Camp is located on Lake George, is an Evangelical Christian Camp. Camp provides an atmosphere where campers encounter Jesus Christ and grow as His disciples through wholesome relationships with dedicated Christian leaders, in an inviting outdoor setting, while participating in safe programs and activities relevant to their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual development. They have a variety of camps throughout the summer for campers ages 5+. There are also leadership camps and camps for youth with disabilities.

Sherbrooke Lake Camp – Sherbrooke Lake Camp is a fun, residential United Church summer camp for campers age 6-16.  During a week at camp, campers experience canoeing, swimming, crafts, nature activities, games, music, hiking, campouts, campfires, vespers and so much more! Do not be alarmed if you come home with a huge smile, a full belly of great food, singing crazy songs, and full of memories and stories. We offer 7 weeks of 5-day residential camps throughout July and August, as well as a two-night Family Camp and a three night Adventure Camp for teens.

Day Camps

Berwick Recreation offers eight weeks of Summer Day Camp beginning July of each summer.  Camp is for children ages 5 to 11. Cost is very reasonable and programs engage the children in many physical and cultural activities including trips to the beach, museum or local place of interest. Greenwood Military Family Resource Centre – Summer Fun Camp for Preschoolers 7 Weekly sessions from Tuesday, July 2 to Friday, August 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Location: GMFRC.
Cost: $60/child per weekly session and $48/child for short 4 day weeks where there is a holiday. Our weekly
themes will focus on the many summer activities that children love to do! We will be hiking, running,
exploring, playing games, doing playground activities, and making new friends. Children must be aged 3 to 5
years and be able to use the washroom independently and enjoy an outside atmosphere. A yummy snack will
be included. Registration deadline is the Monday prior to each weekly session.

Kentville Recreation Ages 5-12.

amps will have use of our parks and trails, the pool and our new splash pad, and will take outings to surrounding communities. All summer programs offered by the town will focus on getting active, connecting with nature, giving back to our community, and gaining skills needed to create your own adventure. This year the day camps will be broken up into smaller groups with each group having a designated leader. Groups will be established based on age, interest and ability. At times all groups will come together for events or activities to support a multi-aged approach.

Timing: Day Camp runs 9am-4pm Monday- Friday. Pre and post-camp playground supervision is available from 8am-9am and 4pm-5pm. The cost for pre and/or post-camp play supervision is $5/day (for either 8-9am, 4-5pm, or both).

Music Camps

Acadia Summer Music Academy Join us at Acadia University for a musical experience that hits all the right notes. This July 1-7, we welcome young musicians to experience our Summer Music Academy. Our Concert Band Camp is designed for students ages 10-18, with experience ranging from beginner to advanced. Each student will play at the right level for their musical development. Students are welcome to attend a day camp (with an optional meal plan), or enjoy a week living in an Acadia residence. For more information, please visit summermusic.acadiau.ca

Country Music Camp – Windsor. Back by popular demand. Moe’s Music School presents Country Music Camp. Learn your favourite country songs and be a part of a band. Each group will participate in song writing and live performances. Come meet new friends and discover your passion for country music. Limited to 10 students.

Rock Camp – Windsor. So you want to be a rock star? This is a good place to start. Hosted by local musician and two time East Coast Music Award winner Jake Smith. These fun filled music camps cover everything from songwriting, performing, recording, musical instrument care and marketing/advertising your latest music project. Each camp will end with a live concert. We also have some very cool guests coming in to do workshops.

 

Junior Choir Camp and Youth Choir Camp, Berwick – For 2 weeks every summer, voices raised together in song float among the hemlocks of the Berwick United Church Campground.

Our camps are open to all, from those just starting to find their voice to experienced singers – there is a place for everyone in this friendly, family-like atmosphere. It feels a little bit like coming home and both singers and staff return to Berwick year after year after year. We have three camps to choose from, for all ages!

 

Specialty Camps

Autism Summer CampCamp Spectrum, our Summer Day Camp for Children & Youth with Autism, is a recreation program for children and youth on the Autism Spectrum between the ages of 3 and 25.  Each camper receives 1 to 1 support from counselors with autism-related experience and training and activities are designed specifically with each individual participant’s needs and interests in mind. On the surface our camp looks like any other — we will go swimming, boating, do arts & crafts — but we will also make adapations to accommodate the special sensory and behevioural needs of all our campers.  

Build Camp for Girls – BUILD is a week long sleep away camp for girls 11 to 14. We will dive into the world of Computer Science by exploring the basics of software development while building interactive artwork and literature, video games, and software that interacts with the physical world. Through our exploration we will also journey through use of hardware, refine our ideation skills and turn our ideas into software. Campers will also connect with Computer Scientists in our community who are changing the world one algorithm at a time. The camp is capped at 20 girls aged 11 to 14.

Cake Decorating Camp – Wolfville Baptist Church. August 27th, 29th  August 27th 9:00-12:00 grades P-3; August 29th 9:00-12:00 grades 4-6; Cake decorating basics. Learn to decorate like a “Cake Boss!”

Camp Brigadoon, Aylesford Lake – Brigadoon Village passionately transforms the lives of Atlantic Canadian children and youth living with health conditions and other life challenges to help them reach their full potential through experiential learning, meaningful connections, and exceptional fun. A series of camps all summer for a variety of health concerns. 

Camp Canada is an exciting cross-cultural boarding opportunity for children aged 8-14 years, hosted at King’s-Edgehill School in Windsor, Nova Scotia from July 16th-30th, 2018. Students from Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, Dominican Republic, Korea, Switzerland, Germany and France gather on the campus for two weeks of experiential  learning. Students also participate  in camping trips, Halifax cultural visits, Art, Music, Sports and other varied activities focused on building self-confidence and interpersonal friendships. Professional and experienced  Independent School teachers and selected councilors have run the camp for 5 years to great response. Creative Critters Camps – Booker School, Port Williams – August 19-30. Our Creative Critters Camps are back. This year we have a focus on transdisciplinary learning, exploring Water in week 1 and Plants in week 2 through the arts, science, drama, and more. Debate Camp – Windsor, Debate Camp is a place to learn, and we believe one of the best ways to develop new skills is through practice and effective feedback.  At camp, debaters are on their feet, raising points, countering and developing new abilities in an active way.  We are more about this active form of learning and less about lecture-style teaching. This camp will be held at the Kings Edgehill Campus, Windsor. 

Earth Leadership Camp, Wolfville – This summer the Town is launching four Earth Leadership Camps, each one with it’s own Story-line and a Code to be solved! Entrepreneurship Summer Camp – Kentville. CEED offers a five-day Juniorpreneur Camp designed for youth ages 8 through 14. Campers will develop new skills and hone existing ones as they learn what it takes to be an Entrepreneur! Over the week campers will engage in activities to build teamwork, innovation, critical-thinking, risk-taking and leadership abilities, as they work towards running their own business for a day and then pitching their businesses to local Entrepreneurs! Math and Science Camp – Treasure Hunt 2019: A Junior Math and Computer Science Camp. A week of fun and enriching indoor and outdoor activities designed to develop a child’s curiosity and enjoyment of math and computer science.  A treasure hunt theme will include topics like data science, robotics, cryptography, geocaching and art & math. Who: Children entering grade 5 or 6

Rowan’s Room, Middleton – We offer more than your typical camp! Open all summer Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 3:00pm, $250 per week, you can pick or chose your weeks or have your child stay the entire summer! We do offer extended hours (8 – 5) at our full rate ($65/day). Our camps our perfect for children ages 2 – 18, with any exceptionality such as ASD, ADD, ADHD, Anxiety, Down Syndrome, CP, or no diagnosis of any kind! We offer a 1:3 teacher to student ratio (1:1 is available for an extra fee), structured routine mixed with play-based fun for a day full of exploring. Wild Spirits Forest and Nature School Camps – TBA

WISE Camps – WISE Acadia is dedicated to providing young girls with learning opportunities and mentoring initiatives in STEAM fields. Every August, girls entering grades 7 and 8 are invited to attend our overnight science camp hosted at Acadia University. Attendees will be given the opportunity to experience a variety of activities to engage them in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In addition, our science camps focus on the ways in which the integration of arts can enhance learning in STEAM education by encouraging students to think creativity and develop unique solutions to problems. Morning and afternoon education sessions focus on fun, hands-on learning activities in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Girls are also provided with a popular mentoring session given by female undergraduate students at Acadia, studying a broad spectrum of STEAM subjects. Theatre Camps

American Musical Theatre Academy– Join us as we spend 14 days singing, dancing and acting in the beautiful province of Nova Scotia, Canada. No matter what your level of musical theatre experience, from beginners to advanced, this is a chance to join in, have some fun, meet new people and learn some valuable skills from working professionals.

CentreStage Theatre, Kentville – This summer CentreStage will be hosting drama camps for youth! Participants will learn stage skills such as voice, movement, character development and technical aspects. Camp Fees: $150 per person per week. Each participant is responsible for bringing a lunch. CentreStage will provide all snacks. Camp Times: Monday to Friday 9:00 to 3:00 (doors open at 8:30am), with a public performance at 2pm on Friday afternoon.

Edalene Theatre, Wolfville. We are pleased to announce that we will be presenting Camp Rock this summer!

A classic story of rivalry and power, Disney’s Camp Rock: The Musical opens with Mitchie and her friends arriving at Camp Rock, ready to spend another summer jamming out and having the time of their lives. But the new, flashy Camp Star across the lake now threatens Camp Rock’s very existence. To keep the doors open, Mitchie steps up, rallies her fellow Camp Rockers and gets them into top shape for the ultimate showdown!

Camp will be offered for students 10-18 and run for three weeks in August from Monday-Friday. During this camp the students will be trained in dance, music and theatre technique while rehearsing for a full scale musical production.

Auditions for camp will be in May for those looking for a singing or acting role. If you would like to come to camp just fill out a registration form.   Cost of the camp will be $350.00 with deposit paid by July 4th. $365.00 if paid on first day of camp, 380.00 if fees are paid late. What can we do with old cardboard boxes? Garbage, recycle, use them for moving? At the Institute of Puppetry Arts at Mermaid Theatre we are taking these old boxes to create worlds where stories will be told.

Perfect for newcomers and experienced actors alike, Quick As A Wink’s Theatre Camps offer a fun and educational theatre experience for everyone! Through making crafts, playing games, and rehearsing for an exciting final performance, campers will learn all about the process behind putting on a show. The week of camp will build up to a final performance on July 12 at 7 pm (Camp 1) and July 19 at 7 pm (Camp 2) at King’s-Edgehill, which parents and friends are invited to attend!

In an exciting two weeks of music, singing, and fun, Quick As A Wink’s Musical Theatre Camp offers an extensive look at what goes into producing a piece of live theatre, while also offering participants an opportunity to improve their performance skills, meet new people, and gain experience in a theatre environment. No acting experience is required! The final performance will be held August 2 at 7 pm at King’s-Edgehill, which parents and friends are invited to attend! All camp registrants must audition for placement in the production. Auditions are part of an inclusive registration process and all camp registrants will be accepted into the camp.

UnRoyal Summer Camp – Wolfville. Our workshop series will be held over 3 weeks. Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. The camp will be themed weekly with programming daily to match. Each Friday the students will perform what was learned throughout the week at our showcase which will be held 1/2 hour before pickup. 
Week 1 July 1-5th will be Theatre101/Musical Numbers. 
Week 2 July 8-12th will be Comedy, Clowning, Circus, and Improv. 
Week 3 July 15-19th will be Stage Combat and History of Theatre. 

Overall, general theatre games, dance and singing workshops, and outdoor activities – weather permitting – will be offered throughout the weeks. We are also offering an hour long pre-camp and post-camp which is at 8-9AM and 5-6PM. This provides parents with a little extra time, if needed, for pick up and drop off! $200 per child, per week!
