Sex in a Pan Dessert Recipe

Sex in a pan dessert recipe with www.ValleyFamilyFun.ca

We started making Sex in a Pan when we were teenagers. This would be a hot item to bring to a potluck party because the name of it was just so funny to say.

When I told my son what he was eating, he turned several shades of red.

Also known as the 6-layered dessert (but where’s the fun in saying that?) this is a yummy and easy dessert that is always a crowd pleaser. It’s made in a 9×13 pan, so will serve a lot of people!

Here’s how!

Sex in a Pan? Is there any other way? Here's the easy-peasy recipe so you can get some, too! Share on X

Gore Courthouse Hill East Hants Nova Scotia

Gore Courthouse Hill East Hants Nova Scotia

Gore Courthouse Hill in East Hants with www.ValleyFamilyFun.ca

This historical scenic spot is nestled in the Rawdon Hills between Windsor and Truro.

I have no idea how I first heard about the Gore Courthouse Hill. I may have read about it in a newspaper article or by scrolling through Facebook. What I do know is that the moment I read about it, I knew I needed to go.

Gore Courthouse Hill in East Hants with www.ValleyFamilyFun.ca

Because it is located an hour from the Valley, and it is merely a scenic point, rather than a trail or a museum, I knew we had to stop there on our way somewhere else. So, last weekend when we were going to Moncton for a blogging conference, I knew this was our chance.

Gore Courthouse Hill in East Hants with www.ValleyFamilyFun.ca

What is the Gore Courthouse?

According to my internet searches, the community of Gore was once home to the East Hants Courthouse which conducted business of the East Hants Municipality and its council. The courthouse stood on the community’s Courthouse Hill for 90 years until a fire destroyed it on July 22nd, 1956. The courthouse was never rebuilt but today there is a memorial that marks the place where it once stood.

When you arrive at the spot, it is hard to believe that a courthouse was once at this location. You really are in the middle of nowhere with nary a community in view. But, maybe it was because f this majestic view, overlooking so much of the province, that this spot was selected.

Gore Courthouse Hill in East Hants with www.ValleyFamilyFun.ca

The site, located on Courthouse Hill Road, is renowned as a scenic viewing point. On a clear day parts of five Nova Scotia counties, from west to east Kings, Cumberland, Colchester, Pictou, as well as Hants, can be seen from marked stones placed in the ground.

Gore Courthouse Hill in East Hants with www.ValleyFamilyFun.ca

We were lucky to be there on a clear day, where we could indeed see all five counties. Stand in the footprints and you will be pointing in the right direction to know what you are seeing.

Gorgeous wild blueberry fields and farmland surround the monument.

When we were there, it was super windy! There are no amenities at the site, and it really is a place to get out and look, read, admire before getting back in the car before driving on.

Getting There

The Gore Courthouse Hill viewing site is located in the Rawdon Hills between Windsor and Truro. The whole experience will take you approximately 15 minutes of a detour, making it totally worth your while to go.

When you are on Route 202, there are a few blue signs pointing the way, so you can’t miss it!

Take the Courthouse Hill Road to the top of this dirt road, and the viewing site will be right there.

In the Area

If you want to expand your trip to the area, there is a mountain bike park there called NovaStrong Adventure Park. Besides biking, you can also hike the trails. Use of the trails is $5 per person.

We did not stop here but saw the park entrance en route.

Overall, if your kids are like mine, they need to stretch their legs and get out and run around when on a long car ride. So, if you are heading to Truro, Cape Breton, PEI, NB or anywhere else, consider driving through the Rawdon Hills and finding the site of Gore’s former courthouse.

On a nice day, you will thank me!

These are not sponsored posts, but rather ways to tell you where in the Valley to eat out with friends and family including Pascalice Bistro in Greenwood! We are eating our way around the Valley to provide you with more great local places!

I first discovered Pascalice Bistro in Greenwood when they approached us about being a part of Burger Wars for Campaign for Kids

Eating out with Friends and Family at Pascalice in Greenwood with www.ValleyFamilyFun.ca

This year’s selection was a pulled pork DONUT burger with chocolate coating. TO DIE FOR.

The year before was a chicken burger in waffles!

So, when my mom and I were out doing errands in Greenwood, I knew just the place to stop for lunch! Pascalice!

About the Restaurant

Pascalice is actually a combination of Pascal and Alice’s names – the two owners! The only difference is if you say it with a French twist or not!

Pascalice’s Bistro offers traditional comfort food with a Swiss twist! Come try our cuisine which includes soups, sandwiches and röstis.

This time, I had the röstis with butter chicken!

And, my mom went all breakfasty and had bacon and eggs!

Eating out with Friends and Family at Pascalice in Greenwood with www.ValleyFamilyFun.ca

There are lots of other great things on the menu besides the rostis, as well! I also love how they have mini desserts for sale. Sometimes you just want something little and sweet after a meal, and these are the perfect size for this! Grab and go or eat in, but definitely check out the selection in the fridge!

Atmosphere

I just love the quaint and quirky atmosphere of the bistro. Everything is colourful and full of fun art.

And  check out the “antique” treasures from my childhood. Anyone have one of these lunchboxes?

In fact, when we had been in, they had just earlier that week, finished completely re-stylizing the restaurant with the coolest graffiti!

The Menu

There are lots of pizzas to choose from, some for every taste bud and dietary need, and are divided into White and Reds – meaning the colour of the sauce.

Eating out with Friends and family at La Torta Woodfired pizzeria in Wolfville with www.ValleyFamilyFun.ca

I went for a white, and my friend a red. We knew there were no wrong decisions.

Eating out with Friends and family at La Torta Woodfired pizzeria in Wolfville with www.ValleyFamilyFun.ca

The pizzas were fantastic!

And, if you didn’t have such a big appetite like I do, they would be great to split with a friend or a child!

What would have been smart is for us to trade half a pizza each to try two different ones!

Hours and Location

The restaurant is open most days from 10am-12pm, except for Mondays. Subject to Change. Check the hours here.

La Torta is located at 117 Front Street, Wolfville, with the entrance being on Central Ave.

We love eating out at local restaurants around the Valley so we can report back to you great new places to try! Today we tried the Bent Ridge Winery and Brewery outside Windsor NS and were not disappointed!

On Canada Day 2018, a new winery and brewery opened in the back of Windsor, Nova Scotia, just before you get to Ski Martock. It is just like stepping into an Italian villa.

Brothers Steven and Glen Dodge created the Bent Ridge Winery and Bent Nail Brewery on their family’s farm. All of their marketing features old family photos.

Don’t forget to order a glass of wine with your meal! I’m a sucker for white wines, and I wasn’t disappointed!

This wonderful Italian villa is bright and colourful and welcoming – even the sinks and toilets!

The chairs are all wine barrels.

And there is even an outdoor fireplace to sit beside.

Hours and Location

OPEN DAILY 11am-7pm (Stc)

The goal, they said, is to be open year-round so that when you are finished skiing at Martock for the day, you can nip over and be warmed by the fire and have a pizza and glass of wine or beer!

Overall

We really enjoyed our visit to Bent Ridge in Windsor! We could have spent a long time, sipping our wine, strolling through Daniel’s Upick on site, and enjoying the atmosphere.

I also would not hesitate to bring kids here. One pizza could feed several kids, and there is plenty for them to do and see outside!

We’ll definitely be back!
