Local Authors
The Valley is full of so many local authors. Many of these are geared towards children.
Bruce Beaton’s Little Athletes Big Leaders – a concise parenting book about how to raise great kids using sports as a metaphor. Sign up for Bruce’s daily inspirational blog as well.
Christy Ann Conlin from Berwick has written Dead Time, for the teenaged audience.
Doretta Groenendyk – besides being an artist, Doretta writes and illustrates children’s books. Available locally and online.
Hal Jessome’s Big Bad Storm – a great book for kids 3-8 to learn about storms and how to make one.
Holly Carr from Canning has several children’s books available including What is Pink?
Jan Coates from Wolfville has written several children’s and teen books, including the award-winning, A Hare in the Elephant’s Trunk.
Jane Baskwill – has several picture books published and just launched a novel for 8-12 year olds. This one is set in Roxbury, an abandoned settlement in Annapolis County, just outside Paradise.
Lila Hope-Simpson has written several children’s book including Fiddles and Spoons Journey of an Acadian Mouse. She also wrote The Clothesline Collection – a compilation of Positive Parenting columns.
Patty Mintz – Former Advertiser Journalist has created a useful companion for those in Nova Scotia with children. Lots to do and see, organized by travel route.
Peter Riddle from Wolfville has written several books for children and teens.
Ron and Sandra Lightburn, Coldbrook – is a children’s book illustrator, including for the book, Pumpkin People.
